Ketrina grew up very shy. As a teenager Ketrina never realized the power of her voice or her disability but through writing and technology. She started to find her way. She started a website to share her story. Her life on wheels is seen through many lenses. Lens that don’t always see ability at first. Having been diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 9 months of age, she uses a wheelchair for mobility.
Ketrina experience in NYC public school, an graduating high school and whiles in college she started to get involved in advocacy, gaining lots of certificates around advocacy, leadership, disability history and more After being crowned Ms. Wheelchair New York 2018, Ketrina Hazell of Brooklyn began to blossom into a motivational speaker, enabling her to work to empower other people with disabilities to advocate for themselves.
In June 2020 Ketrina earned her Associates degree in Liberal Arts from Cuny Kingsborough Community College and has since become a Certified Professional Coach ( life coach), A disaster recovery coach and is also a Certified Autism Specialist. Hazell’s motto is to empower others to discover their voices, and give hope to families in the disability community through sharing her journey.
She specializes in serving the underserved, including people with disabilities, those of lower socioeconomic status, parents of people with disabilities and youth.
She is the Author of her very own book called Special Education to College the Ketrina Story “Breaking those glass ceilings. She blogs about her story and more. She is also a contributing author at Jaro4Me. Ketrina recently started a non profit organization called Disability Champion Mentoring Network, an organization that helps high school students with their post-secondary education transition and allows them to chart their own path.
